The Piece

The weight of sterling silver, cool and immediate against the skin. This is not a polished ornament. It is a heraldic form pulled from the earth of the casting process, its surface still holding the memory of sand.

Some forms have become symbol. The fleur-de-lys is one of them. For some the fleur-de-lys calls to mind the French kings of ages past. For others, the symbol represents the crescent city, New Orleans.  People instinctively reach to touch it, because it feels known and the texture calls to be touched and rubbed.   

That is what this pendant carries: not a lesson in symbolism, but the charge of a form that carries meaning for so many people.

The surface is deliberately matte. The sand-cast texture diffuses light rather than reflecting it, giving the piece a slightly sandy, almost gritty, mineral presence. 

Approximately 15mm x 10mm. Pendant only. Pair with a fine sterling chain or leather cord.

The Story

Sand casting is one of the oldest metalworking methods in human history. Molten silver is poured into a mold pressed from sand, and when the metal cools, it carries the texture of that earth on its surface. This pendant was made that way. The matte finish is not applied. It is the result of the process itself, a record of how the piece came to be.

Care

Store in its provided pouch to avoid surface scratching. Clean with a soft, dry cloth. To polish, use polishing pad provided. The matte finish is part of the piece; do not polish to a high shine. Remember to avoid bleach and other harsh chemicals. Allow creams and perfume to dry before putting on jewelry.
